At Nowhere Entertainment, creativity meets the macabre with the launch of Nowhere University — a growing series of hands-on classes designed to teach the art behind horror, haunt performance, and special effects.
Our first course dives into the world of Special Effects (SFX) Makeup, where students will learn how to transform ordinary faces into terrifying, cinematic creations. This course is for 18+ only. We hope to provide classes to other ages in the future.
Whether you’re a haunt enthusiast, an aspiring makeup artist, or simply someone who loves horror and practical effects, this course offers an exciting opportunity to learn directly from a professional SFX artist.

wHAT yOU wILL lEARN
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of professional special effects makeup used in haunted attractions, film, and live entertainment.
Topics may include:
Creating realistic wounds, scars, and gore effects
Using prosthetics and FX materials
Blood effects (BloodFX) techniques
Airbrush painting for realistic skin textures
Building dimensional horror designs
Practical techniques used by professional haunters and makeup artists
Students will gain both technical knowledge and hands-on experience, learning how to bring horror characters to life.

Meet Your Instructor: Mari Veleru
Winner of the Crypticon Makeup Contest – Fall 2025
Mari Veleru is a passionate SFX makeup artist and haunt industry creative who has dedicated her life to the world of entertainment and special effects artistry.
Originally from the mountains of Romania in Eastern Europe, Mari eventually found her artistic home at Nowhere Haunt in Minnesota, where her love for horror, character design, and practical effects truly came to life.
With over 12 years of study in SFX makeup, Mari specializes in:
Prosthetics application
BloodFX techniques
Multi-dimensional horror concept design
Anatomically realistic airbrush painting on live models
Her work focuses on creating gore-realistic creatures, monsters, and characters that feel alive on stage and in haunted attractions.
Mari has always been a lifelong artist. As a student, she filled notebooks with drawings of monsters and creatures she dreamed of bringing to life. That passion eventually turned into a career crafting terrifyingly authentic characters for the haunt industry.
Winning the Crypticon Makeup Contest in 2025 further cemented her reputation as a rising talent in the SFX community.
Today, Mari continues to grow her craft while sharing her knowledge with the next generation of artists. As part of Nowhere University, she is excited to teach students the specialized techniques behind professional horror makeup.
